This man's quest to get free chicken nuggets is now the most retweeted tweet of all time

And he got his free chicken nuggets in the end.

ONE MAN’S INNOCENT query in a bid to get a year’s supply of chicken nuggets has now become the most retweeted tweet of all time.

Carter Wilkinson’s call for the free nuggets went viral, and now has almost 3.5 million retweets.

He sent a tweet asking Wendys how many retweets he’d need for a year’s free supply. The company responded simply “18 million” to which Wilkinson responded: “Consider it done”.

While he may have some way to go to get to 18 million retweets, US restaurant chain Wendys has decided to reward him for his endeavours, giving Wilkinson a gift card for a year’s worth of chicken nuggets.

Wendys will also make a donation of $100,000 in his name to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, a charity that finds homes for children in foster care in the US.

There are also fundraising initiatives for the adoption charity underway on nuggsforcarter.com.

On 1 April, he had 138 followers. Now, Wilkinson has over 100,000.

The #NuggsForCarter has a custom emoji featuring a box of Wendys nuggets.

His tweet has now beaten the record that Ellen Degeneres racked up at the 2014 Oscars, when she posted a selfie with a gaggle of film stars that included Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep and Brad Pitt.
