Man dies after being assaulted in Christmas Day robbery

The thief stole a Playstation 3 and some cash before fleeing the scene.

A MAN HAS died from injuries sustained during a Christmas Day robbery at his house.

Police in South Yorkshire are appealing for information about the attack, which cost the 61-year-old his life.

At around 10.30am on Christmas Day the man was inside his home in Reney Crescent, Lowedges, when he answered a knock at his door.

An unknown man is reported to have entered the property, assaulting the homeowner. He stole a PlayStation 3 and cash before fleeing the scene.

The 61-year-old was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries where he later died. His family has been informed and officers are providing support.

A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is in police custody.
