Gardaí and Dublin Fire Brigade were notified about the discovery.

Updated 13.15

AN INVESTIGATION IS underway after an elderly man and woman were found dead in their home.

Gardaí said that the bodies of the couple, who were both in their 80s, were discovered in the sitting room of a house at Landscape Park, Churchtown, Dublin 14 yesterday evening.

It is understood that they hadn’t been seen for a number of days.

Gardaí and Dublin Fire Brigade were notified about the discovery. The couple’s bodies have been taken to the city morgue in Marino for a post-mortem examination.

The couple’s deaths don’t appear to be suspicious.

Gas Networks Ireland told TheJournal.ie that there was no natural gas leak found on the property.

It is understood that carbon monoxide poisoning is being investigated as part of the wider investigation into the deaths, along with other possible causes, but it is anticipated the cause of death will be determined by the post-mortem.
