Ciara Breen investigation: Man released from garda custody

Ciara was reported missing at Dundalk Garda Station on 13 February 1997. She was 17 years old at the time.

A MAN IN his 50s arrested yesterday in connection with the investigation into the disappearance of Ciara Breen has been released this morning.

Ciara was reported missing at Dundalk Garda Station on 13 February 1997.

She was 17 years old at the time she disappeared.

The man arrested yesterday was held at Drogheda Garda Station for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

He was detained overnight, and released at around 7am this morning.

A file is to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí issued a renewed appeal for information on Ciara’s disappearance late last year, after two potential witnesses came forward and spoke to detectives.

An age progression photo of Ciara was also released (below).

She was last seen at her home at Bachelors Walk, Dundalk in the early hours of 13 February 1997.

When last seen she was wearing a black leather jacket, blue jeans, a wine coloured sweatshirt and a white t-shirt with an image of her own face on it.

Ciara was also wearing a black leather wrist watch with a square face and green background.

According to a garda statement, “investigating officers are appealing to anyone who may have information in relation to Ciara’s disappearance or who may have seen her on the night/morning of her disappearance to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042-9388400, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station”.
