Almost 25,000 cigarettes seized by customs officers in Cork

The cigarette were found in two searches after a non-Irish national was searched in Cork airport as he disembarked a flight form Warsaw.

CUSTOMS OFFICIALS SEIZED a total of 24,400 cigarettes in Cork on Friday evening.

The cigarettes have been valued at €11,200 with potential loss to the exchequer of €9,000.

In an initial search, 18,000 ‘Marlboro Gold’ brand cigarettes were seized from a non-Irish national in Cork airport as he disembarked a flight form Warsaw.

In a follow-up operation, a further 6,400 cigarettes were found at an address in east Cork. Investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution according to the Revenue’s Customs Service.
