60,000 cigarettes seized by Customs officers in Cork

Cigarettes and a quantity of tobacco were found when a car was stopped by gardaí on the M8 this morning.

CUSTOMS OFFICERS HAVE seized 60,000 cigarettes and 45 kgs of tobacco in Cork today.

The Revenue Customs Service’s seizure in Mitchelstown was assisted by gardaí this morning. The haul has an estimated retail value of €46, 800 and a potential loss to the Exchequer of €36, 972.

The “Capital” cigarettes and the “Samson” tobacco were seized when a UK registered car was stopped on the M8 by gardaí. The vehicle was also seized.

A non-Irish national male in his 40s was questioned by Revenue officers and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
