10.4 million cigarettes worth €4.6m seized at Dublin Port

The cigarettes were found in a 40-foot container that arrived from Rotterdam by ferry.

CIGARETTES WITH A street value of €4.6m were seized from a container arriving by ferry from Rotterdam today.

In an intelligence-led operation, officers from Revenue’s Customs Service at Dublin Port seized the 10.4 million cigarettes with a street value of €4.6m.

Revenue said the cigarettes represented a potential loss to the exchequer of €3.7m.

The ‘Gold Classic’ brand cigarettes were discovered in an unaccompanied 40-foot container which had arrived on a ferry from Rotterdam.

This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes in the ‘shadow economy’.
