Two gardaí were attacked on the streets of a Mayo town last night

Three men have since been arrested.

THREE MEN HAVE been arrested in Co Mayo after two gardaí were attacked in the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened in Claremorris at roughly 4.30am this morning.

Two gardaí stopped a group of men while on mobile patrol. They were subsequently attacked by the gang.

One of the two gardaí, a man, was brought to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar. He has since been discharged.

The other female garda did not require hospital treatment.

The three men, aged 18, 21, and 22, were arrested a short time later.

They remain in custody at Claremorris Garda Station while inquiries continue.
