Open thread: What sums up the Irish summer for you?

Put down that Factor 50 there for a second and let us know…

AH, SUMMER IN Ireland.

A beautiful thing. When it finally decides to show its face, that is.

Dad going nuts over the BBQ

Every single year, the burger buns are forgotten, there’s a Red Sea of ketchup incident, your Dad can’t get the feckin’ thing lit at all, and someone burns the sausages. And you wouldn’t have it any other way.

Sand in your ham sandwiches

The awkward towel wiggle

Ah yes. The old Houdini trick of trying to wiggle into your swimming togs at the beach while shimmying away under a towel. A beautiful, dignified part of the summer.

That first 99

The inevitable morto burn

There’s always that one gap in your intense suncream application, isn’t there? Or – God forbid – the sunglasses panda eye look. Eek.
