Fisherman airlifted from trawler over 100 miles from Irish coast

The Coast Guard helicopter took the man to Cork University Hospital, where his condition is unknown.

A FISHERMAN HAS been airlifted to hospital after suffering an injury on board a trawler over 100 miles from the Cork coast.

The man was injured on board the trawler this afternoon.

An Air Corps CASA aircraft successfully provided search and rescue top cover for the Coast Guard medical evacuation, 115 miles off Kinsale.

The Air Corps crew used their maritime surveillance and communications equipment to assist the Coast Guard rescue helicopter which arrived on-scene at 12:50 pm and spent 30 minutes on scene winching the man to safety.

The Coast Guard helicopter from Shannon took the man to Cork University Hospital, where his condition is unknown.
