Subaru drivers hit the road from Belfast to Dublin 10 years after Colin McRae's death

The Colin McRae Charity Run is returning next month and this time it starts in Lisburn and ends in Lusk.

THIS YEAR’S COLIN McRae Charity Run – now in its third year – will take place on 16 September – with extra poignancy this year, as it is the tenth anniversary of the legendary rally driver’s tragic passing.

The event is organised by local Subaru enthusiast owners and supported by Subaru Northern Ireland and Subaru Ireland and is a tribute to the former world rally champion – Colin died in a helicopter accident on September 15, 2007. The event plans to celebrate his many motorsport achievements and keep his name and legacy very much alive.

Around 150 UK and Irish Scoobies are expected to take part in the rally which starts at 1pm at Eastwood Motors Subaru, in Lisburn, near Belfast. The route takes in the beautiful countryside both north and south of the border before finishing up at Neary’s Subaru in Lusk, Co Dublin, at around 6pm. There will be a stopover along the way, too. Spectators are welcome at both the start and finish lines.

Registration on the day starts at 10am are there will be plenty of family activities at starting point such as a superhero kids meet and greet area and bouncy castle as well as a BBQ and refreshments. Petrol heads are well looked after too with a Subaru heritage display and a Subaru BRZ V8 conversion by local engineering specialists Momentum Tuning.

At the end point, there will be more family fun and refreshments.

Also on the day will be prize giveaways including Subaru goodie bags and men’s and lady’s jackets donated by Subaru NI, an autographed Dublin GAA team shirt and Subaru Ireland branded paddock jackets.

All participants receive a goodie bag at the start and the entrant with the ‘Best Subaru’ will win the Concours D’Elegance Trophy.

All proceeds are in aid of Angel Wishes, a local registered charity that aims to make dreams come true for sick children.

Drivers can pre-register at “Just Giving – NI Subaru Run” or by emailing the organiser Joanne Derby-Murray at nisubaru555@gmail.com.
