Commuting liveblog: High winds, flooded roads and traffic

Here’s all the traffic, transport and weather news you need this morning.

IT’S TUESDAY, IT’S not nice out.

Here’s everything you need to know to get where you need to go.

Morning folks!

It’s Paul Hosford here on TheJournal.ie‘s commuting liveblog, helping you get where you need to go.

Not while driving, obviously.

Let’s start with the weather.

Having just walked to the office, I can confirm first-hand that it’s manky. Rainy, windy and cold, this is the exact kind of day that if you can stay in bed, you stay in bed.

Met Éireann says that the day will be wet and very windy throughout the day. There are three status yellow warnings in place – a wind warning for Ireland, a rainfall warning for west Munster, Connacht and Donegal and a weather advisory for Wexford, Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Waterford.

Ireland is somewhere under all this rain:

There are reports of flooded roads in Galway at Salthill promenade and in Kerry on the Tralee/Fenit Road.

There are also trees down on the Gort/Ennis Road at Lough Cutra in Galway, on the M9 between J8 Kilkenny and J9 Kilkenny south, on the Maynooth/Kilcock road in Kildare and on the Millstreet/Rathmore road in Cork.

The wind and rain is the tail-end of Storm Jonas, which has battered the eastern US in recent days and is expected to bring flooding to some coastal areas.

Here’s what the storm did to the US:

On the roads, a car has broken down on the N3 inbound just after the Snugborough Road and there’s a breakdown on the M50 between J4 Ballymun and J3 M1.

If you get the train on the Connolly to Maynooth line, prepare for delays:

Traffic is starting to build on the M50/Red Cow slip road:

Driving between Cork city and Cobh? Be careful out there.

A collision inbound on Cork Street in Dublin means that no traffic can pass. Which is not ideal.

If you’re heading north on the M7 Limerick to Dublin road, take care. There’s been a collision before J10 Naas South. Delays are being felt as far back as J11.

A reader tells us that there is a car broken down in the middle lane of the N3 inbound, which is causing delays.

The weather is rank, traffic is building and it’s a Tuesday before payday (for most people).

Don’t get stressed, look at this sloth that was found on a motorway in Ecuador.

Sloth

You’re welcome.

A bus has broken down at the entrance to the Port Tunnel heading into town. It’s in the middle lane, so take it easy around there.

Our Daragh Brophy is stuck on Parkgate Street in Dublin.

He says it’s “absolute gridlock”.

The M50 is pretty busy at Firhouse.

At the airports, most flights are getting away, but there are some delays of around half an hour in Dublin.

When it rains, it pours. The M50 is busy southbound:

And now this has happened:

The Ballymullen Road in Kerry has been closed due to flooding from the Ballymullen roundabout towards Tralee town.

There’s been a crash in Carrigaline in Cork. It is causing delays at the Ballea Road roundabout.

It’s not just Parkgate Street that’s busy: the Phoenix Park is congested.

In Galway, the Headford Road is busy after a crash outbound at Terryland Cross.

Galwegians, talk to me about this road. Why is it always so busy?

In Dublin, Rathmines and Rathgar are both very heavy.

The Swords Road is also very heavy, but the N3 is easing.

And with that, I am gone. Not gone home, but gone from the liveblog.

Have a great day, stay safe and dry and warm.

Bye Bye Bye
