In the beginning there was the weather, and the weather was: bright and breezy.
Met Éireann says that it’s cold and breezy in fresh and gusty winds.
There will be bright spells but it will be cloudy later on in the morning with scattered outbreaks of rain or drizzle.
It will be drier later, but with some scattered shower in the north. Highest temperatures 8 to 12 Celsius.
Early reports coming in are saying that traffic at the junction of the North Circular Road /Summerhill Parade is down to one lane this morning.
This is following last night’s shooting at the Sunset House pub near there. Gardaí believe that the shooting could be gang related.
Okay, now let’s take a look at Dublin city.
The AA are reporting early that it’s busy already on the North Quays in the city centre.
It’s busy on the N4 Lucan Road inbound.
Also busy on the Swords Road inbound (but moving) and the Phibsboro Road inbound.
It’s busy on the Navan Road already heading in as well.
AA Roadwatch is reporting as collision in Kildare.
Northbound on the M7 Limerick/Dublin Road and J10 Naas South.
There are heavy delays on approach.
Busy inbound on John’s Road/ South Circular Road inbound also.
But, you know what? It’s doesn’t look like it’s too hectic right now at Guild Street/ Seville Place for the first time in history:
Delays already on the Drumcondra Road inbound heading back on the Swords Road towards Whitehall:
Busy also along the Grand Canal eastbound.
From Harold’s Cross through to Leeson Street Bridge:
Another collision, this time in Dublin.
AA Roadwatch says there has been a crash on the M50 northbound – between J4 Ballymun and the M1/M50 Interchange. It’s blocking the right lane.
AA Roadwatch also report that the collision in Kildare has been moved to the hard shoulder.
We’ve got delays to as far back Junction 11 M9 northbound.
Enough about Dublin! What about the rest of the country!? I hear you shout. Well calm down, I was just getting to that.
Galway
AA Roadwatch reports that in Galway things are still moving well in the city centre at the moment.
There are delays northbound on the Ballybrit Crescent approaching Galway Technology Park.
We’ve also got westbound delays pn Bóthar na dTreabh approaching the Briarhill junction.
Cork
AA Roadwatch reports that it’s busy approaching the Dunkettle Interchange on the N8 Dublin Road and approaching from J10 Mahon on the N40 South Ring Road
Enough about Cork and Galway! What about the REST of the country! I hear you cry again.
Okay, then.
Limerick
The AA reports that traffic is starting to pick up inbound on the Dock Road, with delays approaching Shannonbridge.
Traffic moving well in the Waterford at the moment.
Waterford
No delays to report in Waterford city centre at present.
Staying in Cork for a moment and the AA says there’s been a breakdown on N25 Waterford Road blocking the left lane and median.
This is between J3 Tullagreen and J2 Little Island. It’s causing delays.
It seems that following that shooting last night traffic just isn’t moving on the North Circular Road between Dorset Street and Ballybough.
The M50 is slow north and southbound by the sounds of things.
AA reports that a crash before the M1/M50 Interchange at the slip for the Clarehall Road (R139) has been moved to the side of the road. There are still delays on approach from J5 Finglas.
There’s also that collision after J4 Ballymun which is blocking the right lane still.
Southbound, and there delays through from J6 Blanchardstown to J11 Tallaght.
Now, as much as I love writing about traffic and travel (and I do, truly, love it), sometimes it’s nice to take a break and look at what’s happening in the world.
Here are some of the top stories of the day:
Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael are STILL talking about forming a government, and it’s not looking good news.
The question of whether rank-and-file gardaí should be armed is being debated at the annual conference of the Garda Representative Association this week.
There’s also a new report that shows that public patients are waiting up to 25 times longer for tests to diagnose cancer than those paying for private healthcare.
Everything else you need to know is over at the 8 at 8.
Very busy now in Dublin city centre and inbound.
AA reports that on the Stillorgan Road, it’s busy from Kilmacud Road Lower to Fosters Avenue and then again from Nutley Lane through Donnybrook.
There are also delays on the Roack Road. Busy also on John’s Road near the South Circular Road inbound.
Looking fierce busy on the N32/Malahide Road inbound also.
The M50 at Ballymun is still looking backed up following that crash earlier. Expect delays.
Confirming what I just said, both the gardaí and the AA are both reporting delays on the M50 at Ballymun.
Look at Dublin there – like a big brain with too much going on in its head.

We’ve actually got a traffic tip in (I was beginning to think my email was broken).
Alison says that there’s a traffic build up at the M7/M9 Interchange due to a crash.

Everyone spare a thought for poor Dave McGinn – he’s stuck in traffic on the Conyngham Road heading towards town. Let’s hope he makes it in time.
Looks traffic’s bad all the way back from the North Quays there. Could be a long wait, Dave.
Okay, let’s step out of Dublin for a moment.
Cork
AA Roadwatch reports delays on the N28 Ringaskiddy Road from Carrs Hill to Mount Oval.
Also busy on the Rochestown Road approaching the N28.
Busty still approaching the traffic black hole that is the Dunkettle Interchange on the N8 Dublin Road as well from J9 Bloomfield on the N40 South Ring Road.
The AA also says that it’s heavy inbound on Summerhill North from the Ballyhooley Road to the Lower Glanmire Road.
Busy also in the city centre and Penrose Quay and on Anderson’s Quay.
Looking busy, alright.
Traffic still VERY heavy on the M50, unfortunately.
Dublin City Traffic Cams are showing us cars packed together at:

Elsewhere in Dublin, and traffic is still very heavy on all the usual inbound routes.
Traffic on Drumcondra Road is literally (or is it figuratively?) bumper to bumper – stretching back along the Swords Road to Whitehall and beyond.
Still looking very busy at Guild Street/ Seville Place.
Busy at Constitution Hill/ Western Way also, back towards the phibsboro Road and beyond.
