Commuting liveblog: Crash on M7 Kildare leaves traffic bound for Dublin at a crawl

Here’s all the traffic, transport and weather news you need this morning.

HELLO THERE, A very good morning to one and all and welcome to Monday’s commuting liveblog.

Cianan Brennan here, I’ll be with you until 9am as another working week gets under way.

So stick with me for all the latest traffic, travel and weather information from across the country.

Good morning to you, it’s a bit of an overcast day, but there’s a spectacular sunrise out there.

It didn’t look like much at first, but then this:

became this:

Here’s what the weather forecast for today looks like, according to Met Éireann:

There’ll be mist and fog with patchy rain this morning, but all of this should clear as the day gets going.

This will leave a mainly dry day with sunny spells and some isolated wintry showers.

It’ll be cloudy with patchy rain in the west of the country, dry with clear spells in the east.

Most of the fog will be seen in the east of the country.

Maximum temperatures country-wide will be between six and eight degrees Celsius.

If you notice anything strange or startling on the roads or rails this morning, let us know at tips@thejournal.ie or you can tweet us @thejournal_ie or myself @ciananbrennan.

Remember, only type if it’s safe to do so.

That doesn’t look too bad now really does it?

Here’s how traffic coming into Dublin looks at the moment.

Overall the M50 looks like it’s behaving itself for the time being, although things do look a little congested at the Red Cow slip road:

At John’s Road / South Circular Road things look like they could be getting hectic:

And check out the fog at the M50/ Blanchardstown roundabout:

Travel safely out there.

The dog doesn’t seem to be too concerned about the trouble it’s causing. Bad dog.

If you’re making your way to Dublin from Bray by rail this morning be advised that the 7.47am service has been cancelled:

It looks like traffic into Dublin on the M7 between Naas and Newbridge, Co Kildare, is at a standstill:

In international news, a hostage situation involving a shooting in Sydney, Australia, has been successfully resolved.

Those issues mentioned before on the M7 into Dublin can now be seen reflected at the Red Cow roundabout:

Elsewhere, the M50 still seems to be running fairly smoothly, apart from at Blanchardstown / N3 where things look quite congested:

#SYDNEY: A man has been killed and two others injured in a siege at an industrial estate.

Here’s how traffic is looking in Ireland’s regional cities this morning, courtesy of AA Roadwatch:

CORK: There’s a crash southbound on the N8 Dublin Rd before the Dunkettle Interchange adding to delays. It’s also busy approaching the Interchange on the N40 South Ring Rd from J10 Mahon. There are some northbound delays on the N28 Ringaskiddy Rd from Maryborough Hill to Mount Oval and elsewhere on this route, it’s busy eastbound from Raffeen Bridge to Shanbally Cross. It’s also busy westbound on the Rochestown Rd from Thornbury to the N28. It’s moving better along the Quays from Lavitt’s Quay to Anderson’s Quay.

GALWAY: It’s already quite slow on the N17 Tuam Rd heading towards Galway City from before Loughgeorge through to Claregalway. Then it’s busy as usual heading into Galway Technology Park along Ballybrit Crescent from the Briarhill side.

LIMERICK: Traffic on the Corbally Rd is quite slow heading towards Limerick City from Westbury to the Mill Rd jct. There are delays over Sarsfield Bridge into the city centre.

WATERFORD: Traffic moving well in the city at this time.

Don’t forget, if you see anything that’s causing a traffic issue on your commute, or even something that’s just generally pleasing but not traffic-related like a puppy and a duck being friends with each other, drop us a line at tips@thejournal.ie, cianan@thejournal.ie, or you can tweet us @thejournal_ie, @ciananbrennan.

AA Roadwatch reports that the collision in Cork at the Dunkettle Interchange has now been cleared. Delays remain however.

The M50 has ground to a halt practically, between junction five Finglas and junction seven Lucan. Travel time between the two is now 20 minutes according to @livedrive, with time from Lucan to Dundrum a further 23 minutes.

If you’re just joining the motorway heading southbound be prepared for delays.

The delays at Finglas can be seen on Dublin City Council’s traffic camera in the area:

finglas Traffic southbound from Finglas at present DCC DCC

The weather is looking nasty to boot.

It seems the issues being seen close to Naas have been caused by a collision at junction nine, Naas north.

All traffic is now using the left lane.

Meanwhile, in Dublin, traffic on Constitution Hill at King’s Inns heading for the quays is very heavy at present – travel time to the Liffey is 20 minutes at present:

If you’re heading to Dublin Heuston from Waterford by rail this morning, be advised the 7.10am service is running at least 15 minutes late due to a passenger taking ill on board:

Ok folks, that’s going to do it for this morning’s liveblog. It’s been a relatively quiet one on the roads – take care, and make sure you get to where you want to go safely.

Bye for now.
