Commuting liveblog: A fuel spill in Shannon and some very expensive doughnuts

Here’s all the traffic, transport and weather news you need this morning.

GOOD MORNING AND welcome to Tuesday’s commuting liveblog.

It’s Michelle Hennessy here and I’ll be with you until around 9am with all the latest traffic, travel and weather info to help get you wherever you’re heading.

So, let’s start with the weather. Met Éireann’s rainfall radar would have you think it’s not as wet as it is out there…

Showers this morning will continue throughout the day, with some sunny spells, according to the forecaster.

Winds will be “fresh to strong and gusty”.

This was the lobby in our office yesterday and it looks like today will be no different.

In Dublin, traffic doesn’t appear to be too bad at the moment, though it looks like it’s getting busy on North Strand Road.

Just looking through some of Dublin City Council’s traffic cameras and there are still a few election posters knocking around…

Have they been taken down yet in your area?

If you’re using the M7 this morning, you might want to give yourself a little extra time:

How is traffic where you are? Tweet us @thejournal_ie or you can email me – michelle@thejournal.ie. Please only do this when it’s safe to do so, though. No tweeting while driving.

Aside from the election count, which still isn’t over, the big story of the morning is the shooting dead of Vincent Ryan in Finglas, Dublin.

The brother of murdered dissident republican Alan Ryan was sitting in his car when he was shot. His murder is not believed to be connected to the two recent gangland shootings.

Dublin Bus has already been responding to commuters about delays this morning, though it doesn’t look like there are any major problems:

Oh, before we forget, ladies – did any of your propose yesterday? We could do with a good story on this grim morning. Let us know.

If you’re in Shannon, this might cause a few problems for you:

Another spill causing delays – this time in Dublin:

Here are the main traffic updates from AA Roadwatch:

  • Kildare: Heavy traffic northbound on the M7 Limerick to Dublin Road from before Junction 12.
  • Clare: Reports of a fuel spill on the roundabout at Junction 8 Ballycasey on the N18 Galway to Limerick Road.
  • Galway: A stop/go system is in place for roadworks on the N17 north of Tuam at Montpotter until Friday from 7am to 7pm, so delays are likely this evening too.
  • Traffic also busy southbound on the N17 Tuam Road from Loughgeorge to Claregalway. Slow heading into Galway Technology Park on Ballybrit Cresent.
  • Cork: Road works on the N20 Limerick to Cork Road between Burnfort and Rathduff until December.
  • Traffic building on the Lower Glanmire Road in Cork inbound at Tivoli. Delays approaching the Dunkettle Interchange on the N40 South Ring Road from the JLT on the N8 Dublin Road.

A crash in Cork may also cause some delays:

Poor Linda’s not having a good morning:

Someone have a nice cuppa ready for her when she arrives wherever she’s going.

There are reports of a collision near Blanchardstown:

Things are looking busier on the M50, though it looks like traffic is moving nicely.

Do let us know if you’re stuck in a traffic jam anywhere across the country. Tweet at @thejournal_ie or email michelle@thejournal.ie. You can always leave a comment below to let us know too. But not while driving, obviously.

AA Roadwatch is also reporting a crash on the N8 Lower Glanmire Road in Cork near the Dunkettle interchange.

And there’s another fuel spill in Westmeath on the Mullingar/Castlepollard Road at Junction 17.

So, that’s it from me this morning. It’s been relatively quiet, which is good news for you commuters. Hopefully the rest of your day goes as smoothly.
