Johnny's Back! The latest HSE ad for condoms is pretty funny

The message? Sometimes the sex doesn’t happen, but for when it does – Johnny’s got you covered. Watch the ad here.

THE THINK CONTRACEPTION campaign has launched its latest television ad and it features some pretty cringe stuff – all based on true stories.

The HSE Crisis Pregnancy Programme initiative hopes the commercial will encourage younger people to carry condoms with them.

The theme of this year’s ad focuses on stories of awkward sexual (or near-sexual) experiences that didn’t quite work out as planned.

According to the makers, the message is:

It may not happen for you every time, but when it does – Johnny’s got you covered.

The campaign will be live on television for about four weeks from today. It will also be shown in cinemas over the next two months. Online ads will be visible on Facebook, YouTube, RTÉ and TV3 during the same period.

Commenting on the new advert, Dr. Stephanie O’Keeffe, HSE National Director of the Health and Wellbeing Division in the HSE, said:

The new Think Contraception campaign promotes consistent use of contraception, particularly condoms, to address the issue of unplanned pregnancy and to combat the high numbers of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among the 20-29 age group. We are confident that this new campaign delivers the key message to the target audience in a fun and entertaining way.

‘Johnny’, who represents the safety and reassurance of using a condom, will be making special appearances around Dublin’s city centre tomorrow.
