THREE PEOPLE, INCLUDING two police officers, have been shot in a suburb of Copenhagen in Denmark.

The incident happened last night in the Christiania neighbourhood of the city, which has a reputation for drug problems.

Danish police say the assailant pulled a gun as officers tried to arrest him.

One of the police officers was hit in the thigh, while the other suffered a head wound Copenhagen police confirmed on Twitter.

A civilian who was hit in the incident was also hit in the leg and is not believed to be critically injured.

Police tracked the assailant down five kilometres to the south in Kastrup near the airport and shot him early this morning. The man has been hospitalised with serious injuries.

It was not revealed why the suspect had been initially sought by police.
