Family of Cork man injured in one-punch attack travelling to Sydney

The 29 year old remains in hospital in an induced coma.

THE FAMILY OF the Irish man who was injured in a one-punch attack are travelling to visit their loved one in Sydney

A man appeared in a Sydney court yesterday charged with the attack which left the man with serious head injuries.

29-year-old Jason Cierans is in an induced comma after being assaulted at Bronte Road, Bondi Junction at 1am local time Saturday (4pm Friday Irish time).

The Sydney Morning Herald reports Argentinian national Adrian Gabriel Martinez appeared in Parramatta Bail Court charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm.

It is reported police will allege the Cork man was initially involved in an altercation with Martinez’s friend and that after this ended the 30 year old delivered a single heavy punch to Cierans head.

It is believed Cierans fell to the ground and suffered a serious head injury. The Irishman remains in St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition.

Both Martinez and a 27-year-old man were arrested over the incident. The other man was charged with affray. Martinez will return to court on Thursday.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it is providing consular assistance to an Irish citizen injured in Sydney.
