25-year-old still being held over death of woman in her Cork home

Marian Horgan was stabbed to death at her home on Murmont Avenue yesterday morning.

A 25-YEAR-old man remains in custody today as gardaí investigate the fatal stabbing of a woman in her home.

The 60-year-old woman, named locally as Marian Horgan, was found dead at her house on Murmont Avenue, Montenotte, yesterday morning.

Her husband Billy had also sustained a number of stab wounds in an assault. He remains in hospital and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 25-year-old man was arrested at the scene, having been restrained by neighbours, RTÉ reports, and a murder investigation was launched.

A garda spokesperson confirmed the man is still being detained at Mayfield garda station this morning for questioning.
