Cork rented house covered in dirt, rotten produce, faeces and maggots

“If Steven Spielberg tried to create it for a horror movie, he couldn’t.”

A LANDLORD IN Cork has revealed photos of a house he rented out to a family, by way of giving warning to fellow landlords in the area.

The pictures, sent to Red FM’s Neil Prendeville programme, show the house covered in household junk, black bags, dirt and rotting produce.

A bag of maggots and human faeces was also found – the landlord, Val, told the host, on yesterday’s show.

He explained that he had rented the home to a couple on rent allowance around two years ago. At the time, they had one child – and they’ve had two more since, Val said.

The parents always paid the rent on time – but would arrange to meet himself or his wife at a location outside the house, every month.

His wife happened to be passing last week, and noticed the door half open, he said, noting that she “came upon a scene which – if Steven Spielberg tried to create it for a horror movie, he couldn’t.”

It was “horrific” he said.

There were flies, bags of rubbish, “human poo”.

Everything that you can imagine was just all over the house – in the hall … in bags.

Vegetables that had been in the fridge had rotted into liquid, radiators “busted off the walls” and the gas boiler had been broken, the landlord explained.

“There’s one particular bag – I moved a quilt with my foot and there was a black bag under this quilt…”

As he and his son attempted to clear the house, they noticed the black bag was moving, he said.

We actually thought there was a kitty-cat or a puppy or something inside in the bag… So we lifted the bag to move it – and it was full of maggots.

His friends and family had been cleaning the house for the past week, Val said.

I don’t know where I’m going. Everything you can think of, Neil, has been gone in the skip.

He said he had challenged the man who rented the house over the state he left it in – but had got nowhere.
