Rescue operation for man swept away while spreading ashes at sea

A search is underway off the Cornish coast.

A SEARCH OPERATION is underway in Cornwall for a 51-year-old man who was swept away by a wave while spreading ashes in the seas.

The Cornish Guardian reports that the search began yesterday evening and involved an RAF helicopter as well as members of the Padstow RNLI Lifeboat team.

After four hours of searches that were hampered by gale force winds and rough seas, the rescuers concluded for the night before resuming this morning.

Two other members of the group who were with the man as the ashes were being spread are reported to have attempted to rescue him but were unsuccessful.
