Man due in court after woman forced into car in early morning attack

Officers are investigating after an assault on a 35-year-old woman who was forced into a car early yesterday morning.

A MAN IS due in court in Newry today charged with a number offences – including kidnapping and false imprisonment.

It comes after an assault on a 35-year-old woman who was forced into a car in Hilltown yesterday morning.

“We are investigating a report of a 35 year old female being assaulted by a man in the Hilltown area early this morning and being forced into a silver Ford car,” Detective Chief Inspector Stephen Wright said in a statement yesterday.

“The car was driven to Knockgorm Road in Katesbridge where the female made off and sought help. Her assailant also made off from the area.

“A short time later, around 7.40am, a vehicle was stolen in the Banbridge area.

“The green Mercedes jeep was abandoned in the Sprucefield area just before 8am following a collision with other vehicles.

“A 29 year old man was arrested a short time later and is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

“The female victim sustained injuries to her face and head which required medical treatment.”

Police confirmed this morning that a 29-year-old man had been charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, attempted robbery and other offences.

He’s due before court later.
