Two women killed in Carlow crash

Four other people – including two children – were also injured in the collision between a car and a minibus.

TWO WOMEN HAVE died in a fatal road traffic collision in Carlow.

The crash happened at 3.30pm when a car and a minibus collided at Rathwade Cross near Bagnalstown in Carlow. The women, one believed to be in her 50s and the other believed to be in her 70s, were both travelling in the car and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two children who were also in the car have been brought to St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The male driver of the bus and a female passenger have also been brought to hospital but there are as yet no details on their condition.

Gardaí and emergency services are at the scene of the collision and the road has been closed to allow for a forensic examination to be carried out.
