Eleven arrests in Co. Clare as gardaí probe illegal money lending

The arrests in Kilrush include five males aged between 18-55 years and six females aged between 20-49 years.

SIX WOMEN AND five men have been arrested in Co. Clare in connection with illegal money lending.

Gardaí say the arrests were made following a number of searches carried out in the Kilrush area at about 7am this morning.

The arrests include five males aged between 18-55 years and six females aged between 20-49 years.

The searches targeted a number of premises including including private and business premises and involved local gardaí assisted by several other units including the Criminal Assets Bureau as well as other officials from Revenue and the Department of Social Protection.

Gardaí say investigations into unlawful money lending have been ongoing for several months and are focused on various individuals  after a number of complaints were made by members of the public.

All those arrested are detained at various garda stations in Co Clare, Limerick and Galway and can be held for up for 24 hours
