Oval cricket ground evacuated after crossbow bolt lands on pitch

Police are at the scene.

THE OVAL CRICKET ground in London has been evacuated after an arrow or crossbow bolt was fired onto the pitch.

Police were made aware of the incident shortly after 4.30pm and are at the scene.

The incident happened during a match between Surrey and Middlesex. There are no reported injuries.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: “At this early stage it is believed that the object came from outside of the ground. There have been no arrests. We retain an open mind as to motive.”

Police are investigating the incident and have asked anyone with information to contact them.
