How much is the Leinster House members' bar owed by TDs and Senators?

If you guessed over €11,000, you were right.

THE OIREACHTAS MEMBERS’ bar was owed €11,392.63 at the end of June this year.

The Private Members’ Bar was owed an average of €51 by the 226 members of the Oireachtas, figures released to TheJournal.ie show. The figures make up part of a Freedom of Information request that asked for information on the bar.

With the bar having cheaper than average drink prices, the outstanding bill could purchase:

  • 2,649 pints of Guinness or Smithwicks
  • 2,071 small bottles of wine
  • 2,423 pints of lager
  • 2,278 glasses of whiskey

or

  • 4,557 glasses of coke or 7up.

The numbers do not include July, when €7,000 was spent across the abortion debate.

Members of the Oireachtas are allowed charge food and drink to their accounts, but there is indication on how quickly it must be repaid.
