Family set up GoFundMe after Irishman found dead at Algarve holiday apartment

30-year-old Daryl Dargan had been on a trip to Portugal.

THE FAMILY OF an Irishman who died in Portugal yesterday have set up a fundraising appeal to bring his body home to Ireland.

More than €3,500 has already been raised to help repatriate Daryl Dargan, who was found dead at an apartment in the Algarve on Monday morning.

The 30-year-old from Portlaoise, Laois, had been staying in the resort town of Albufeira.

“Due to very sudden and sad circumstances Daryl’s family needs our help to get him home,” the message on the GoFundMe page reads.

A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it is providing consular assistance to the family.

Family and friends have paid tribute to the 30-year-old on social media.

“Nothing could have prepared us for this sad and devastating news this morning – our beautiful kind-hearted nephew Daryl Dargan sadly passed away suddenly,” one relative wrote on Facebook. “Totally devastated beyond belief”.

“Terrible news to have woken up to today, our eldest cousin taken well before his time. RIP Daryl Dargan, a true legend lost,” another relative wrote on Facebook.

Other people have left messages of support for his family.

“Thoughts and prayers are with the family at this sad time,” one person wrote on Facebook.

Police in the area are investigating the cause of death.
