Senator David Norris has been criticised for saying a Fine Gael TD was “talking through her fanny” – but does he need to say sorry?

INDEPENDENT SENATOR DAVID Norris has been criticised for his comments in the Seanad yesterday in which he said Fine Gael TD Regina Doherty was “talking through her fanny” and referred to the “Regina monologues”.

Minister Brendan Howlin has said Oireachtas debates should not degenerate into personal animosity, while Doherty has described the comments as upsetting and sexist. Speaking on The Vincent Browne Show on TV3 last night, Doherty said the remarks were not acceptable in a professional workplace.

Doherty is to make a formal complaint to the leader of the Seanad over the comments.
