Minister Denis Naughten hit by a car while out cycling in Roscommon

He has been brought to hospital.

GOVERNMENT MINISTER DENIS Naughten was involved in a collision while cycling in Roscommon this afternoon.

The Communications Minister was cycling with his wife when he was struck by a vehicle on the Castlecoote Road near Roscommon town.

A witness told TheJournal.ie that the TD was at the scene for about an hour before an ambulance transferred him to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, Galway.

He is undergoing tests and X-rays on his back but it is understood his injuries are not serious.

Emergency services, including gardaí and two ambulance crews, attended the scene.

Gardaí confirmed they are investigating a minor collision.
