The film is praised as being “deftly constructed, consistently engrossing and frequently flat-out-hilarious”.

A DOCUMENTARY CHARTING eccentric basketball star Dennis Rodman’s trip to North Korea has premiered at the SlamDance Film Festival to rave reviews.

Dennis Rodman’s Big Bang in Pyongyang is narrated by Today FM host Matt Cooper and tracks Rodman’s attempts at normalising US-North Korean relations by playing a game of basketball in the notoriously secretive state.

Variety magazine, the film trade paper, praises the film, singling out Cooper’s involvement:

“It’s still a strange sight,” remarks narrator Matt Cooper, who demonstrates an impressive ability to turn on a dime from whimsy to seriousness throughout. “The leader of the world’s most controlled state and America’s most out-of-control celebrity laughing and joking like a couple of old college buddies.

The film is called “uproariously funny” in parts, but “ineffably unsettling” in others, as Rodman’s mood swings threaten to derail the whole project.

Overall, the film is praised as being “deftly constructed, consistently engrossing and frequently flat-out-hilarious”
