Six arrested, guns and bomb parts seized in dissident crackdown

Four vehicles and a quantity of ammunition have also been uncovered by gardaí in searches carried out in Dublin and Wicklow.

FIVE MEN AND one woman have been arrested as part of a crackdown on dissident republicans operating in the Dublin and Wicklow area.

The men – all aged in their 20s – were detained this morning after officers from the Special Detective Unit and the Crime & Security Section stopped two vehicles.

In follow-up searches, gardaí seized several firearms, assorted ammunition and various bomb parts — all of which have been taken for forensic testing.

Tests are also being carried out on four vehicles also been seized in the course of today’s operation.

A woman in her 20s has also been arrested, and taken for questioning to Ballymun Garda Station.

The five men are being detained at various garda stations around Dublin. All six are being detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act for membership of an unlawful organisation.

According to gardaí, “investigations are ongoing and further searches continue”.
