TWO DIVERS WERE rescued by Dún Laoghaire Coast Guard off Dalkey Island yesterday afternoon.

When the divers failed to surface, the dive boat cox’s search and rescue training kicked in and the Irish Coast Guard was alerted.

The Dublin Marine Rescue Coordination Centre tasked a helicopter from Dublin Airport, an RNLI Dún Laoghaire boat and Dún Laoghaire Coast Guard’s four search units.

Dún Laoghaire Coast Guard members looking off Whiterock spotted the two divers within minutes. They had been pushed into the coast by the tide and wind.

The Coast Guard said the divers “were in good spirits” when rescued, adding that weather conditions were worsening just as search operation was being shut down.
