UK doctor and two nurses charged after woman travelling from Ireland died following abortion

The 32-year-old woman died in 2012 after an abortion

A DOCTOR AND two nurses have been charged with manslaughter after a woman who travelled from Ireland died following an abortion in England.

Scotland Yard said that the doctor and two nurses have been summonsed to appear at Ealing Magistrates’ Court in relation to the death of the woman from the Republic Ireland following an abortion at a clinic in Ealing in January 2012.

The woman died after suffering post-surgery complications while in a taxi following the procedure.

The case first came to light in July 2013, after it emerged UK police were investigating the case.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command (HMCC) are investigating the death of a 32-year-old woman and have charged the following:

  • Dr Adedayo Adedeji, 62 has been charged with manslaughter, namely by gross negligence and failing to take reasonable care of other persons who may be affected by acts or omissions at work, contrary to Section 7 and 33 Health and Safety Act 1974
  • Gemma Pullen, 31 has been charged with manslaughter, namely by gross negligence and failing to take reasonable care of other persons who may be affected by acts or omissions at work, contrary to Section 7 and 33 Health and Safety Act 1974
  • Margaret Miller, 54 has been charged with manslaughter, namely by gross negligence and failing to take reasonable care of other persons who may be affected by acts or omissions at work, contrary to Section 7 and 33 Health and Safety Act 1974

All three have been summonsed to appear on Friday, 19 June.
