Man in his 80s killed in Donegal road crash

A 64-year-old woman was also hospitalised in the incident.

A MAN AGED in his 80s has died after the car he was driving collided with another vehicle near Donegal town this afternoon.

The incident took place at around 3.30 pm on the N15 between Donegal town and Ballybofey, at Mullanalanphry, 7 km outside Donegal town, according to a Garda statement.

The driver of one of the cars, a man in his 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 64-year-old female who was driving the other vehicle, was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital, where her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

There were no passengers in either car, and the road has been closed for a forensic examinations.

Today’s fatal collision brings to 116 the number of people killed on Irish roads so far in 2014.

That’s an increase of three from this time last year.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to call Donegal town Garda station on 074-974-0190, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111, or to contact any Garda station.
