Dr Jack Kevorkian, known as 'Dr Death', has died

Dr Kevorkian supported euthanasia in terminally ill patients and was jailed for second-degree murder in 1999.

THE MAN KNOWN to the world as ‘Dr Death’ has died.

Named Dr Jack Kevorkian, he was a pathologist who was jailed for assisting the suicides of terminally ill people.

He himself died this morning, MSNBC reports, aged 83, at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan in the USA.

He had been hospitalised with pneiumonia and kidney problems, and suffered a pulmonary thrombosis when a blood clot travelled from his leg to his heart.

His lawyer told NBC that Dr Kevorkian’s death was a peaceful one, with classical music by Bach playing as he died.

Kevorkian spent eight years in jail after being convicted of the second-degree murder of Thomas Youk in 1999.

He is reported to have assisted in 130 suicides and was the subject of an HBO movie You Don’t Know Jack.
