Printers refuse to design gay wedding invitations because of their Christian beliefs

Beulah Print said they are “not against homosexuals” but don’t support gay marriage – which printing the invites would do.

A PRINTING COMPANY IN Drogheda has refused to design invitations for a same-sex marriage because of the owner’s religious beliefs.

Jonathan Brennan posted on his Facebook page yesterday, saying he was furious and disgusted with the treatment he received from Beulah Print.

I have given them my business for over 4 years now and when I asked them to design my wedding invitations he refused as himself and his business partner don’t believe in same sex civil partnerships and homosexuality and they are ‘devoted Christians’ I can’t believe how they can discriminate against gay people.

The company today responded to his comments, saying they are “Bible-believing Christians who are committed to standing by our conscience and God’s Word”.

They said they have declined a variety of work over the years because it was contrary to their beliefs.

“We have never hidden our faith from our customers and represent the gospel at every opportunity. We are not against homosexuals however, we do not support same sex marriage, which printing wedding invitations would do.”

There was criticism of the company after their response, with one commenter on the above post saying:

“You are supposed to be running a business and thus providing a service to the GENERAL public. Both God and your own PERSONAL beliefs should not even enter the equation! Personal beliefs have utterly no place in the world of business.”

Another said it is incidents like that that are turning people away from Christianity.

In 2013, the owner of a stationery store in Dublin came under fire after he removed a wedding cake-topper of two grooms holding hands from a display because he said the store would not “stock any merchandise that promotes same-sex marriage”.

Months of abuse for the store and its staff followed. It is now under new ownership and when the new manager took over, the first thing she did was stock the shelves with same-sex wedding invitations.
