The tip of the wing of one of the planes was clipped off in the incident.

AN INVESTIGATION IS to be carried out after two Ryanair planes clipped each other at Dublin Airport this morning.

The incident happened at approximately 6.45am when the wing tip of one plane came into contact with the tail of another plane as both planes were taxiing slowly towards the runway.

One photograph from the scene shows the tip of the wing clipped off after the incident.

Emergency services attended the scene but there were no injuries.

Customers on board the two planes were reassigned to replacement aircraft which have since departed to Charleroi in Belgium and Edinburgh.

Ryanair said the two planes involved are being repaired and will be returned to service shortly.

One of the passengers on board one of the flights told Morning Ireland what had happened.

“It wasn’t a huge impact to be honest, but you could feel the plane tug, and then we kind of just stopped,” Andrea Cunningham told RTE Radio One.

She said passengers stayed on the plane for approximately an hour after the incident.

Ryanair has apologised to customers for any inconvenience.

In a statement, the airline said the two planes had been taxiing towards the runway when the incident happened.

“The winglet of one aircraft appears to have scraped the tail of the other,” Ryanair said. “There was no impact on customers on board”.

Ryanair said both planes were under the instruction of Dublin Airport Air Traffic Control at the time of the incident.

Dublin Airport has said the airport is fully operational following the incident with some minor delays.
