DUBLINERS ARE BEING asked to report any stockpiling of bonfire material they see over the next few weeks.
A freephone number is open 24-hours for householders who happen to spot any piles of wood or old tyres in the neighbourhood.
There’s also a handy mapping system on the City Council website, where people can pinpoint the exact location where the material is stockpiled (see below).
The Council’s planning dozens of raids to remove material in the coming weeks.
Around 1,500 tyres and 750 tonnes of bonfire material were taken away last year.
“Dublin City Council is again putting in place an extensive action plan for the 2015 Halloween period,” Brian Hanney of Dublin City Council’s waste management division said.
“The main focus is to promote a safe and enjoyable Halloween for the citizens of Dublin through various events and festivals across the City and to minimise the impact of environmental and social consequences of bonfires and illegal fireworks through preventative actions and awareness raising activities.”
A number of licensed fireworks displays will take place across the city for Halloween, the Council says.
The Council, Dublin Fire Brigade and the gardaí launched their Halloween Fire Safety campaign yesterday.
