Man dies after hijacked taxi crashes into a pole in Dublin City

The crash happened near bout 8.45 am near St. James’s Hospital.

ONE OF THE men in a hijacked taxi that crashed in Dublin City this morning has died of his injuries.

The man in his 20s received fatal injuries when the vehicle he was a passenger of struck a pole on Mount Brown this morning.

The crash happened at about 8.45 am near St. James’s Hospital with gardaí stating that the vehicle was not being pursued at the time.

The crashed car had been hijacked only a short time before the crash took place, at about 8.30 am in the Dublin 8 area.

A second man, also in his 20s, was arrested following the incident and is currently being held at Kilmainham Garda Station.

No other persons were seriously injured during the incident.

The state pathologist’s office has been notified and a post-mortem is to be arranged.
