Dublin City Council has been confiscating wood and tyres ahead of Halloween

The Council is cracking down on bonfires.

DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL is confiscating material it believes is intended to be used in illegal Halloween bonfires.

The Council has been collecting tyres, timber and other materials in recent weeks.

It’s encouraging members of the public to report any stockpiled materials they know of in a bid to crack down on the fires.

People can get in touch with DCC via its website or by calling 1800 251 500 during office hours. Alternatively, the Environmental Protection Agency’s 24-hour line can be reached on 1850 365 121.

Hugh Coughlan of the Council’s Waste Management Services said that offering people a safe environment in which to celebrate Halloween and stopping illegal bonfires has “played a big part in reducing the damage Halloween has traditionally caused”.

He added that the public’s support was vital to stamp out illegal bonfires that are a both a safety and environmental risk.

Last year, Dublin Fire Brigade handled over 720 emergency calls over the Halloween period. They’ve released the below video encouraging people to stay safe this time around.
