Drumroll please: And the headliners for Dublin's New Year's Eve festival are...

Clue: one is a Dublin singer and the other is a Kildare/Dublin indie rock band.

IMELDA MAY AND Bell X1 are to headline Dublin’s second-ever New Year’s Eve countdown concert.

The indie rock band and the rockabilly singer were announced this morning as the main acts at the concert which will be part of the NYE Dublin festival.

The two will perform on an outdoor stage which will be built for the occasion on College Green in the city centre. More performers are to be announced in the coming weeks.

“I can’t wait to perform,” said Imelda May. “I love New Year’s Eve and love gigging at home”.

The New Year’s Eve Festival for Dublin is to be the first official event for The Gathering. A fireworks display will be held after the concert and a procession of light will be held beforehand. The event will be broadcast live on RTE One and RTE Radio One.

The Lonely Planet travel guide last week included Dublin in its list of the top five destinations for New Year’s Eve. Also on the list were Prague, the French Alps, Chiang Mai in Thailand and the New South Wales Coast in Australia.

Tickets for the New Year’s Eve concert cost €15 plus booking fee until 10 December and €20 plus booking fee after that date.
