Early Christmas present: woman gives birth in Dundrum Town Centre

When your time comes, your time comes. A woman was out doing some Christmas shopping when she had a shock visitor.

THERE WAS AN EARLY Christmas gift for one shopper in Dundrum Town Centre yesterday, when she gave birth in the centre’s toilet complex last night.

The woman, who was pregnant but not heavily so, was shopping in the centre last night but was surprised when she went into early labour – making it to the toilet complex on the centre’s third floor where staff arrived to assist her.

A spokeswoman for the centre told TheJournal.ie that the timing of the birth had simply “just took her by surprise”, and that the woman had had her child before emergency medical services could arrive at the centre.

Centre staff were able to tend to the new mother and baby before an ambulance arrived to rush them to the National Maternity Hospital on Holles St, where mother and baby are said to be in good health and good spirits.
