AFTER A LONG spell of fine weather, it’s set to turn unsettled in the coming days, with heavy rain expected on both Saturday and Easter Monday.
As of this morning it looks like the conditions will ease a little for Easter Sunday, when the main 1916 centenary events take place in Dublin, but we’re still expecting scattered wintry showers and “squally winds” amid the sunny spells.
This morning will stay fine with some sunny spells developing later.
Outbreaks of rain will extend eastwards from the Atlantic tonight.
There’ll be some further rain tomorrow morning, clearing later – and Friday will also be dry with sunny spells.
“It will cloud over during the afternoon and rain will move in from the Atlantic into the west and northwest by evening,” the latest forecast from Met Éireann says.
“This rain will extend eastwards to all parts during the evening, turning heavy and persistent.”
The weather takes a turn for the worse on Saturday, when it will be “mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain, heavy in places”.
“A clearance to sunny spells will move into the west late Saturday afternoon and clearing in all areas Saturday evening.
“After a mild start with temperatures of around 12 degrees it will turn much colder with the clearance later. Cold Saturday night with clear spells and scattered wintry showers.”
Sunday, we’ll have “a cold day with a mixture of sunny spells and scattered wintry showers. Highest temperatures only 6 to 10 degrees in squally winds.”
The forecast for Monday is for stormy weather, but that could change in coming days:
Potentially very wet and very windy weather as a deep Atlantic depression is forecast to move towards Ireland but there is a high degree of uncertainty in its track and intensity at this stage.
The main Easter Rising parade and commemoration takes place in Dublin city centre on Sunday, with half a million people expected to attend.
