Eddie Hutch Jr in a "fragile psychological state", court hears

He appeared at Dublin District Court to face charges for motoring and theft offences.

A DUBLIN criminal whose father was murdered during a series of killings in the Hutch-Kinahan feud is in a “fragile psychological state”, a court has heard.

Eddie Hutch Jr, 41, with an address at Portland Place in the north inner city, had sentencing adjourned when he appeared at Dublin District Court to face charges for motoring and theft offences.

Hutch, a nephew of Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch, scooped €33,000 in prizes last year on RTE’s Winning Streak – when his younger brother Ross appeared on the game show on his behalf.

Eddie Hutch Jr’s solicitor Declan Fahy told Judge Bryan Smyth that his client was pleading guilty to the charges before the court.

Psychiatric reports

He asked the judge to note that Hutch has a matter under appeal in the circuit court and that psychiatric reports have been sought.

Requesting an adjournment, he said the defence was anxious to have a psychiatric report before the court. Fahy asked the court to adjourn the case until a date in January and he added that his client, who did not address the court, “is in a very fragile psychological state”.

Judge Smyth agreed to grant the adjournment but warned Hutch that this was “not a licence to pick up new charges”. He was remanded on continuing bail to appear again in January for the facts and mitigation pleas to be heard ahead of sentencing. The judge also noted that updated reports on the accused have been sought.

Hutch faces charges for driving without a licence or insurance on 18 December last at St Patrick’s Road, Drumcondra, Dublin and also driving without a licence, insurance, NCT, and car tax at Herbert Place in Dublin on 23 March 2014.

He also has two charges for stealing three bottles of Jameson whiskey and a bottle of vodka worth €156 in total from a Supervalue shop in Blackrock in south Dublin on 14 January 2014 and stealing eight bottles of spirits with a total value of €184 from a shop in Cabra in north Dublin, 21 March 2014.

Eddie Hutch Jr’s dad and cousins have been murdered over the course of the last year.
His cousin Gary Hutch was murdered in Spain in 2015 while his father taxi driver Eddie Hutch Snr , 59, was gunned down in February in Dublin.

Another cousin, father-of-one Gareth Hutch, 35, was shot dead as he was getting into his car outside Avondale House flats where he lived on North Cumberland Street in inner city Dublin, on the morning of 24 May.
