20-year-old man dies at Electric Picnic festival

Gardaí confirmed the sudden death but do not believe foul play was involved.

A 20-YEAR-OLD man has died at the Electric Picnic Festival in Laois.

Gardaí confirmed the sudden death of a young male in Stradbally in the early hours of this morning.

No cause of death has been identified and a post-mortem will be arranged. Medics have confirmed that the deceased – who is from Dublin – had a pre-existing cardiac condition.

In a statement, organisers of the festival said:

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with the deceased family and his friends at this very sad time. A full investigation is underway.”

Gardaí investigating the death do not believe there was any foul play involved and no violence was reported.

The man was discovered collapsed on site at 1am when emergency services were called. Medical assistance was given at the scene before the man was removed to Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise, where he was pronounced dead at about 1.45am.
