Irish family fly to Australia to be with critically-injured son

Eoin Murray sustained serious head injuries on Saturday morning.

Updated 22.54

A 30-YEAR-OLD Irishman is in a critical condition in a Melbourne hospital, Australian police have confirmed.

Eoin Murray was found with serious head injuries in the Fitzroy area of the city on Saturday morning. He was spotted by a passer-by at about 6am on Nicholson Street and taken to hospital immediately.

His condition has been described as critical and local media have said he is ‘not expected to survive’.

Investigators have not been able to determine what happened to the Kildare native and have issued an appeal for witnesses and a taxi driver. They believe he got out of a cab between 5am and 5.30am on 7 September.

The north Kildare man is on life support and his parents have flown from Ireland to Melbourne to keep vigil at his bedside at Royal Melbourne Hospital.

7News reports that witnesses saw the victim lean against a car in the area at about 5am before becoming involved in an altercation with another man.

It is not known if Eoin was pushed or if he fell.
