Epic Timelapse Map of Europe of the Day

WITH SO MUCH talk about the future of Europe and the eurozone these days perhaps we’d do best to take stock of what’s been happening on the continent over the past 1,000 years or so

Fast forwarding from around 1000 AD to 2003, this video shows Europe’s borders and how they have changed down through the years with the demise of old empires, the formation of new countries and a fair bit of change going in Ireland.

All rounded-off with some tense, epic music.

If you’ve got three minutes, watch this one (we’d recommend you go full screen for full effect):

And if you have 10 minutes or so, check out this one which is slowed down and annotated with all the details (again, full screen is recommended).
