TDs - though not these ones - have been tweeting aplenty about the referendum in recent days. Laura Hutton / Photocall Ireland

#EURef: How government TDs have used Twitter to push for 'Yes' vote

TDs, primarily from the government benches, have been tweeting like no-one’s business to advocate a ‘Yes’ vote this past week. Here’s why…

THIS WEEK HAS seen the official launch of the referendum campaign with parties and elected politicians on both sides of the debate keen to put across their view.

But what has been particularly noticeable in the last week is the extent to which TDs from the government parties and particularly Fine Gael have been tweeting their thoughts advocating a Yes vote using all the appropriate hashtags and getting in all the key words like investment and stability.

The blogger Suzy Byrne noted this in a post on Tuesday in which she carried texts that had been apparently sent out from FG HQ urging TDs and representatives to “post positive msg re. yes vote for stability and investment”.

By contrast, tweets from TDs advocating a No vote have not been as plentiful.

Of course there are more government TDs to go around but here’s a flavour of what they’ve been putting on the Twittersphere this week:
