So, where does the tax on alcohol, tobacco and petrol go?

Did you know that from midnight, your pint of beer will wipe 24 cent off the national debt?

WITH THE ANNOUNCEMENT in today’s Budget that excise duty on alcohol and tobacco is to go up, it is fair to ask, just where does that money go?

Luckily, the researchers at PublicPolicy.ie have put together this handy infographic on where your tax money goes.

For example, did you know that your €10 bottle of wine contributes 73 cent to the national debt? Or that a tank of petrol is five-eights tax?

The think-tank also has a handy calculator that lets you figure out where all of your tax money goes here.
