Explosion on shopping street in Derry - no injuries reported

Police in Northern Ireland have confirmed the explosion but say there are no injuries as the street was evacuated at the time.

POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland say there has been an explosion on a shopping street in Derry this afternoon.

There are no reports of any injuries or damage.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said there was an explosion on the Shipquay Street area of Derry but said that the area was evacuated at the time after an earlier security alert in The Diamond area in the city centre.

The PSNI added that a security operation is continuing and warned motorists to expect major delays.
